Common questions:
Electric Charge by Touch (Charging by Conduction)
Electric charge by touch, also known as charging by conduction, is a method of transferring electric charge between objects through direct contact. When a charged object touches a neutral object, electrons move between them, resulting in both objects ending up with the same type of charge.
This process relies on the movement of free electrons. For example, if a negatively charged object touches a neutral conductor, excess electrons from the charged object transfer to the neutral one, making it negatively charged as well. Conversely, if a positively charged object is used, electrons from the neutral object move into the positively charged one, leaving the neutral object positively charged.
Unlike charging by induction, charging by touch requires physical contact between the objects. This method demonstrates the principle of conservation of charge, where the total electric charge is conserved before and after the transfer.
